Get Organized

Let's Get Organized!

In this day and age of mailings, circulars, newspapers, magazines and family matters, we probably have more paper floating around than ever before.  And this can really take over a room in a short span of time.  And when you have children and/or pets added to the mix, things can really spiral out of control in no time at all!  We have first hand experience with busy families, pets and clutter.

Getting organized is something everyone thinks about from time to time.  But let's face it...it's easier said than done, right?  Surely your intentions to tidy are there, but the time is not.  Or maybe you have one room to just tidy up (if you're lucky) but you procrastinate.  However, if it's a little more ominous a task than that, www.mommystime.com will help you conquer the battle of the messes!

Okay, so you've decided to start mission organization.  Let's take a look at where to begin:

  1. Start small.  Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day.  If you have many rooms to tackle, start with the smallest so that you can achieve results quicker and thus feel a sense of accomplishment with your organizational task.
  2. Now that you've selected the space you wish to tidy, you need to being de-cluttering.  This is the part where you must sort and toss.  Make 3 piles, bags or boxes for yourself labeled "Keep It", "Toss It", and "Charity."
  3. Determine which objects are things you absolutely love, can't live without or must have.  These things will go into the "Keep It" spot for now.
  4. As you're finding what to keep, hopefully you will find lots to throw into the "Toss It" pile.  These are all the things that will get chucked in the trash.
  5. Lastly, things that you rarely use and are mental question marks for you, put in the "Charity" pile.  These are items such as old books, clothes, small household items that you won't be crying over if you part with them.  A good rule of thumb to remember is:  if you haven't used it within the past year, you probably won't and once it's gone, you'll never miss it!
  6. Looking around your things are now scattered everywhere in these 3 groups.  Hopefully your "Keep It" pile is the smallest of the lot.
  7. Remove the other 2 groups for now so that you have a small pile of things to tidy up.
  8. Check the following chart for ideas on where to place things and how to tidy up after organizing.
