Organize Your Bathroom
With so much emphasis on bathrooms these days in the home decor magazines, you may be wishing to just start with organizing all your "stuff" before tackling a remodel. Trends are leaning towards making the bath a zen-like spa retreat. Well, even if you don't have the budget to create what you see in magazines and TV, there are some inexpensive things you can do to make your bathroom look great! A mini face-lift in the bathroom is easily accomplished and really not that expensive. If you want to change the look quickly and cost-effectively, start with painting it in a fresh neutral tone. Change your towel bar and paper dispenser to something new in stainless steel or brushed nickel perhaps (these items are inexpensive at large building box stores). Rip down that standard builders' row bulb lighting track over the sink and buy a new inexpensive fixture to replace it. This will add instant appeal and style. Change your towels to a fresh new color (making sure it complements your wall color). Add a print on the wall for a customized look. Accessorize with some new bath rugs, pretty soaps, perfumes and tissue and you've got a whole new look to your bath! Under the sink can be a nightmare for us women. All of us must have dozens of creams, lotions and potions under there! Start again by taking everything out and sorting. Shelf life of a lot of these products is not long, so check the expiration dates or take a whiff and see if it's gone off. Make-up older than 3-6 months should be thrown away due to bacteria levels. Things you never use should also be tossed. Be aggressive in what you toss. There are great small drawer organizers in plastic nowadays that are inexpensive and make a great place to store lipsticks, make-up and small cosmetic items. Some units also stack, depending on the size you have to work with. Group things logically. Say, if you use certain items daily, place them all together so you can easily reach them when you need them. Purchase some plastic or acrylic dividers for lipsticks, nail polishes and small bottles. This way you can see what you have and not have to dig for them.
Start with the basics and soon you will see a well-organized, fresh new space to enjoy! Have a question, comment or idea you'd like to share? Write an email here... |
